Waste, Recycling, & Reuse
The Summer Village of White Sands provides several options for residents to properly dispose of household waste, recycle eligible materials, and reuse or donate unwanted household items.
Community Household Waste Bins
|
The community household waste bins are located at #8 Front Street and are available for residents to dispose of typical household waste.
The bins are owned by the Summer Village of White Sands. The municipality is a member of the Stettler Regional Waste Management Authority (SRWMA) and pays an annual requisition toward regional waste management services. White Sands residents may also use the Stettler Regional Landfill free of charge for eligible waste. The municipal waste bins are for HOUSEHOLD WASTE ONLY. Household waste is the everyday garbage generated through normal household activities. With the introduction of enhanced recycling, residents are encouraged to separate recyclable materials from their regular household garbage whenever possible. Large, bulky, hazardous, construction-related or other non-typical household waste must not be placed in or beside the municipal bins. These items must be taken to the Stettler Regional Waste Management Authority / Landfill information. Please do not leave items beside the bins. Broken furniture, appliances, TVs, computers, printers, lawn mowers, BBQs, mattresses and similar items must be taken to the landfill. |
Enhanced Recycling - Beginning October 1, 2026
Beginning October 1, 2026, White Sands residents will have access to an enhanced recycling system at the municipal waste site.
The expanded program accepts a much wider range of household packaging, making it easier to divert recyclable materials from regular household garbage. The new recyclable material list includes paper and fibre, plastic packaging and containers, flexible plastics, foam packaging, metal and aluminum containers, and glass.

Prepare Your Recycling Properly
Most containers should be empty before being recycled. Cardboard and boxboard should be flattened. Metal containers should be rinsed and dried. Aluminum foil should be balled up. Glass containers should have lids and caps removed, while plastic containers generally keep their lids and caps on. Foam meat trays should have plastic film and absorbent pads removed. Shredded paper should be placed in a tied clear plastic bag.
Residents are encouraged to review the Recyclable Material List – October 1, 2026 for the complete list and preparation instructions.
Thank you for helping keep recyclable materials out of the waste stream and making the most of White Sands' enhanced recycling program!
