Approved RV Permits

Recreational Vehicles (RV's) Information:

Under the Land Use Bylaw 186-22, the Summer Village of White Sands outlines the guidelines to recreational vehicles within the municipality, for more information please review the Land Use Bylaw.  Below are some key points to know about RV use in the Summer Village.  
RV Parking and Use in Zoned R1 Properties
Sewage:
  • No sewage/wastewater may be disposed of into the ground.
  • ​Self-contained sewage holding tanks must be reinforced pre-cast concrete, per the Sewage & Wastewater Bylaw.
Structures:
  • RVs cannot have permanent additions (including decks).
  • Roof structures over RVs are not permitted.
  • Covered decks are not permitted as RV accessories.
Parcels with an Approved Dwelling:
  • 1 RV allowed for accommodation: maximum 30 consecutive days.
  • 1 RV allowed for storage only (at a given time).
Parcels without an Approved Dwelling:
  • 1 RV allowed at any time (annual development permit required).
  • 1 guest RV allowed: up to 30 consecutive days, then must be removed for at least 10 consecutive days.
Temporary Increase (up to 3 times/year):
  • May exceed the RV maximum up to 4 RVs total.
  • Conditions:
    • Notify Development Officer in writing of dates.
    • Provide suitable parking & sewage disposal.
    • Limit of 5 consecutive days per occurrence.
    • RVs must remain fully on the parcel/driveway and not impede roadways.

Parcels with 2021 Development Permit for 2 Permanent RVs:
  • Certain parcels that obtained a 2021 development permit may continue with 2 permanent RVs until:
    • A dwelling unit is developed, or
    • A subdivision or ownership change occurs.
  • After these changes, full compliance with current bylaw provisions is required,
    • To be in full compliance with the current bylaw provision means only 1 RV will be allowed (see Parcels with(out) an Approved Dwelling as stated above).  Temporary Increase is allowed (see following section)
  • There are approximately 9 properties with this approval — listed in the Land Use Bylaw (page 47).  This list is updated periodically when changes occur.

Permits & Fees

Permits & fees are required annually for the RV Permitting process in the Summer Village of White Sands as per the Land Use Bylaw.  A permit will not be issued if an application or payment have not been received.  The application is on the Development Application Permit that is prescribed  and can be found in the Land Use Bylaw or go to About > Forms & Applications on the website.

Applications must be emailed to the municipal office

Payment for fees can be made through:
  • OptionPay (additional fee through the website)
  • E-transfer  (additional fee through Fees and Services Bylaw)
  • in-person with cash, cheque, or bank draft
  • Mailing a cheque to our mailing address: Box 119, Stettler, AB.  T0C 2L0

Upcoming Holiday Closure:
The office will be closed at Noon on December 24, 2025, and will resume regular office hours on January 5, 2026.
